What to expect
- Free consultation, a check of your skin and hair type, an explanation of effects and risks.
- Free patch test: a brief pulse on a small patch of skin, usually on the hand or leg.
- Sessions usually 4 to 8 weeks apart, always with Joanna.
Your sessions
Usually 6 to 8 sessions, between 6 and 12 depending on the individual, usually 4 to 8 weeks apart. Joanna will estimate the number you are likely to need at your consultation, based on your skin and hair type.
Several sessions are usually needed, and results vary from person to person: they cannot be guaranteed. Very light, red or grey hair usually responds poorly.
Treatment only after a personal consultation. If you have moles in the area or hormone-related hair growth, please consult a doctor first.
How the laser works
Light meets pigment
The laser sends short pulses of light that are absorbed by the dark pigment in the hair.
Heat weakens the root
The light turns into heat and weakens the hair root while the skin surface is cooled.
Hair falls out
After a few days or weeks the treated hairs fall out; regrowing hair is often finer.
Why several sessions?
Hair grows in phases, and the laser only works on hair in the growth phase. That is why 6 to 8 sessions are usually needed, usually 4 to 8 weeks apart.
